Ribble Source to Sea is an informal association of five environmental initiatives covering the Ribble catchment and estuary, including some of the Lancashire and Merseyside coast.

Through Source to Sea the initiatives share resources and work jointly on projects that can benefit the larger Ribble catchment.

Source to Sea has the following objectives:

The Source to Sea approach mirrors that of the Mersey Basin Campaign, a well established government backed initiative to clean-up the watercourses of the Mersey Basin. Both initiatives focus on improvements to the water environment, and their catchments, and aim to foster a partnership approach to working. The Darwen River Valley Initiative, River Enhancement East Lancashire and Douglas & Yarrow Valley Action initiatives are within both Source to Sea and Mersey Basin Campaign areas.

Issues such as access, litter, recreation and nature conservation are common across the catchment. A combined approach addresses all these issues and avoids duplicating work. Although Source to Sea has a catchment wide approach, the individual initiatives continue their projects to address local, often site specific, issues.

An essential partner in making the initiatives work at every level are the people who live and work in the catchment. There are many ways you can become involved with the initiatives. Participating in or organising activity days such as canoeing or fishing; undertaking clean-ups; adopting a section of watercourse or local habitat; and saving water and reducing waste at home or work are just a few examples. Every year the Source to Sea initiatives will have Action Weeks during May / June and September / October which will be a focus of partner activities.

The initiatives aim to make the rivers, catchment and coast a better place for the enjoyment of all. If you would like to get involved in any way please call your local co-ordinator.
